Not Soon Forgotten: Homage to Paul Robeson
Working together, directly on the walls of the Levy Gallery, four visual artists--Christian Michel, Marta Sanchez, Vaughn Stubbs, and Lance Winn--will create works that reinterpret and re-present Paul Robeson's story. This exhibition will include a video presentation of the Inmate Poetry project at Graterford Penitentiary, organized by local poet-curator Kevin O'Neill.

New Castle -- July 23 and July 26, 1998 -- celebration
A Paul Robeson Celebration
On July 23, the church had a video, the last 28 minutes of Emporer Jones, which documented Robeson's life.
On Sunday, July 26, the Black Hsitory Choir sang 5 of the spirituals which robeson had also sung. Dr. Dennis Brutus, form the Univeristy of Pittsburgh, shared his memories of Robeson, while growing up in South Africa. People in the audience, at least six of them shared their memories of seeing Robeson sing, and hearing him speak. A very touching experience for the audience.

Paul Robeson Centennial Forum: Robeson, a pioneering activist for African liberation
Panel discussion of the historical record of Paul Robeson's activsm in behalf of African colonial peoples; his conroversial support of the Soviet Union as the primary contravening force between European powers and colonialism in Africa, his call for African-Americans to be involved in the making of U.S. Policy toward Africa; and the implications for African and African-Americans today, including such areas as diplomacy and tarade, economic development, demographic & territorial issues.
Prominent Africanists from the U.S. and the Caribbean, African United Nations delegates, and the University of Pennsylvania students and faculty will participate.
