The Institute for African American Studies at the
University of Connecticut will be sponsoring "Paul Robeson: A
Commemoration and Panel Discussion." Panelists include:

Dr. Jeffrey O. G. Ogbar, Prof. of History at UConn,
Steven Rosenthal, Prof. of Sociology at Hampton University, and
Toby Schartz, Prof. Emeritus of Molecular and Cell Biology at UConn

The event, "Paul Robeson--The Tallest Tree in Our Forest--
The meaning of His Life for Today", will feature performances,
including songs by Howard Foster. A presentation will be
made by Yale PhD Lewis Gordon, currently Associate
Professor of African American Studies, Modern Culture and
Media at Brown University. Also included will be personal
recollections from several New Haveners. Benefit for the
"Peoples Weekly World" -- donations accepted.

- Master's Tea: A Paul Robeson 100th Birthday Party
Jonathan Edwards College, Yale University, is offering a photo
exhibition of Carl Van Vechten's photos of African-American artist (50
in number) from March 26 - April 30, 1998. Among these photos
is, of course, one of
Paul Robeson. There will be three Master's Teas associated with the
exhibition and the one on Thursday, April 9, 1998, will be dedicated
to Paul Robeson.

Paul Robeson Arts Festival
The mayor of Enfield will proclaim April 9 as "Paul Robeson Day." Yusef
Lateef will be in concert with his quartet. Prof. Barksdale, mistress of
ceremony, will read selected works by Paul Robeson.
