Danny Glover will host the (nonprofit) Robey Theater Company's theatrical tribute to Robeson's diverse acomplishments as an actor, athlete, singer, and humanitarian. Alfre Woodard and Brock Peters will also appear. Proceeds will go to the Paul Robeson Scholarship Fund, administered through the Paul Robeson Cultural Center at Rutgers University.

Paul Robeson Centennial Concert
Musicians Union, Local 6 will sponsor a Paul Robeson Centennial Concert at the Golden Gate Park Band Shell on Sunday, August 23, at 1:30 P.M. Featured will be the Oakland East Bay Symphony under the direction of Michael Morgan.
      The event, free to the public, is made possible through a special 50th anniversary grant from the American Federation of Musicians Recording Industries Music Performance Trust Fund. The fund covers the cost of the symphony's union musicians. Additional concert costs have been generously provided by the ILWU, SEIU and through the efforts of the San Francisco Labor Council and the Bay Area Paul Robeson Centennial Committee.
      In August of 1943 the San Francisco CIO Council presented a United Nations Concert at the City's Civic Auditorium featuring Paul Robeson and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra under the direction of guest conductor Albert Coates. In addition to rallying support for the United Nations war effort against Fascism, the concert gave special recognition to Harry Bridges, then California regional director of the CIO and President of the ILWU. At the time Bridges was still fighting efforts of the U.S. Government to deport him to his native Australia.

Paul Robeson identified with working and oppressed people all over the world, not only with African Americans, but also, for example, people in Latin America, Spain, Africa, the Jewish people in Nazi Germany and miners in Wales. This panel discussion will focus on Robeson's efforts to publicize & alleviate the oppression of these people whom he so closely identified with.
Invited panelists include: Edward James Olmos; Prof. Sterling Stuckey, U.C. Riverside; Prof. and Prof. Lamont Yeakey, Cal. State Univ., LA.
October 27, Tuesday, 7pm -- The Collector's Paul Robeson
Alden Kimbrough (whose family's collection comprises the core of this exhibit) will discuss collecting, and this collection of Robeson artifacts, in particular.
Bass/Baritone singer, Howard Marshall will sing songs which have become closely identified with Robeson over the years.
November 8, Sunday, 2pm -- Robeson the Man
Oneil Cannon, President of the Paul Robeson Community Center, Los Angeles, Cecil Fergerson, co-curator of this exhibit and Hope Foy, Contralto who sang with Robeson, will have an "Armchair Discussion" about Paul Robeson, and his involvement in labor and the struggle for equality, especially in the Los Angeles area.
November 22, Sunday, 2pm -- Robeson the Singer
Earldon Scales, Bass Baritone, will sing songs from the Robeson Repertoire, and discuss Paul Robeson and his influence on Scales, others of his generation, and on future generations.

A full retrospective of Paul Robeson's film work that has been assembled to commemorate his birth. The highlights of the film series include his debut film Body and Soul (1925) directed by African American Oscar Micheaux to rare footage and films of Robeson working outside the Hollywood system.

Shoot the Hoop With Sports Stars of Today and Tomorrow...
Paul Robeson was an athletic superstar on the basketball court, and the baseball, track and football fields long before he became known for his bass voice and intense activism. Various aspects of Robeson as Athlete and forerunner to today's African American Sports Stars will be explored in the W.E.B. Du Bois Library, at the Robeson Center, while the young and the young at heart shoot baskets on our basketball court outside. Decathlon Star Rafer Johnson has been invited. Current college stars will also be present and will help officiate. Prizes will be given, and a good time is planned for the entire family.
