writings, research notes, biographical material, obituaries and eulogies, and
other personal, family, and political papers. The bulk of the collection
relates to Jerome's work with the Communist Party, 1930-65, and the
organization and activities of the party. Includes correspondence relating to
his trial, defense committee, conviction, and imprisonment for violating the
Smith Act, and mss. of two autobiographical novels, A Lantern for Jeremy
(1952) and The Paper Bridge (1966), and other writings. Correspondents include
Herbert Aptheker, Ella Reeve Bloor, W. E. B. DuBois, Howard Fast, Dashiell
Hammett, Rockwell Kent, Alfred Kreymborg, Archibald MacLeish, and Paul
